FAQs
These are the questions our designers hear most often in the showroom, about what we design, how long it takes and how a project with us works. If yours is not here, call us or stop by: we are happy to talk it through.
What does Artistic Kitchen Cabinets & Design do?
We design kitchens and the cabinetry that makes them work. Our designers plan your layout with you, help you choose between our three cabinet lines (DOCA from Barcelona, Wood-Mode and Crystal), and settle every finish, door style and storage detail before anything is ordered. When the cabinetry arrives, we coordinate its installation with your contractor or project team.
Most of our projects are kitchen remodels in modern, traditional and transitional homes across the Bay Area, and the same designers also plan cabinetry for the rest of the house.
Do you design more than kitchens, like bathrooms and other rooms?
Yes. Kitchens are where most of our projects start, but if it attaches to a wall, we can design it and build it for you. That includes bathroom vanities, bookshelves, entertainment and media centers, custom closets and fireplace mantels.
These pieces come from the same cabinet lines and get the same attention as a kitchen, so a vanity or a media wall looks like it belongs to the rest of your home. Cabinetry for bathrooms and other rooms is designed as an add-on to a full kitchen remodel. Bring photos or measurements of the room to your Showroom Experience and we will talk through what is possible.
How long does it take to design my kitchen?
Our designers can turn a kitchen design around in about a week. How fast it goes depends mostly on you: whether your plans or measurements are ready, whether your appliances are picked out, and how comfortable you are making decisions as we go.
Clients who arrive with those pieces in place often move quickly. If you would rather take your time with layouts and finishes, we will work at that pace instead. Our designers can go as fast as you want them to.
Do you offer framed, frameless and European cabinetry?
Yes, between our three lines we cover all of them. DOCA is European cabinetry made in Spain, with European metal drawer systems and an unusual range of materials, from reclaimed Finnish pine to stone fronts. Crystal offers both framed and frameless construction, in different series, across traditional, transitional and contemporary styles. Wood-Mode is our luxury line, known for its hand-applied stains and furniture-grade finishes.
The difference is easiest to understand in person. In the showroom you can open the doors and drawers of each line side by side, and a designer will explain which construction suits your home and the look you want.
What makes Artistic Kitchen different?
Our people. Our designers have spent decades in this business, and you work with one of them personally, with white-glove service from the first design meeting to the installation of your cabinetry. Since Greg Sharp founded the company in 2004, the promise has stayed the same: we are not done with your project until you are happy with it.
In practice that means unhurried design meetings, honest advice about which cabinet line fits your home and your budget, and a designer who still helps after the cabinetry is in.
How can I get started on my project?
Most clients start with a Showroom Experience: a free 30-minute guided walk-through of our Mountain View showroom with our showroom team. You can book it online, and you do not need plans to come in. The showroom is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and walk-ins are welcome on Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM.
When you are ready to plan, the next step is a 60-minute Design Consultation with one of our designers, also at no cost, where you go through your space, your plans and your priorities together. If you decide to move forward, a design agreement and deposit start the layout and design work, followed by an estimate review, your order and the coordination of your cabinetry installation.
Are you a general contractor?
No. We design kitchens and cabinetry and coordinate the cabinetry installation. Permits, structural changes, plumbing, electrical and roofing stay with your general contractor. Your own contractor can install the cabinetry, or we can coordinate installation.
How do you make sure the cabinetry is built to last?
By choosing who builds it. We work with three makers we know well. Wood-Mode is very selective about its wood, which gives you more consistency from door to door. Crystal builds both custom and semi-custom cabinetry, so we can match the right series to each room. DOCA brings European construction and unusual materials such as reclaimed Finnish pine and fossil oak. Our designers know how each line is built, and they will tell you plainly which one fits your project.
Can you work with unusual layouts or specific design requests?
Yes, that is most of what we do. Whether it is an awkward corner, a ceiling that changes height, a specific appliance or a piece that is not in any catalog, our designers plan around it. Some of our lines can even engineer custom pieces from our drawings, so the cabinetry fits your space rather than the other way around.
